HOMEMADE DREAM CATCHER: A THOUSAND YEAR OLD STORY

The history behind the dream catcher comes from Pre-Columbian America. It was the Indian people who first made this age-old object.

There are several legends that involve the creation of the dream catcher, one of the most famous being about an old shaman who climbed to the top of a mountain to find wisdom.

But at the top of this mountain reigned Iktomi, a legendary spider who taught the shaman how to capture the nightmares, the negative energies of the night, and preserve the good energies of the night air.

According to the legend, the spider told the shaman "If you work with the right forces, you will be guided in the right direction and in harmony with nature. If not, you will go in a direction that will cause pain and misfortune".

He then passed on the dream-catcher, which the shaman passed on to the women of the Objiwe tribe to replicate.

It was then propagated to all the Amerindian tribes.
